Meghalaya Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Launches Food Security Campaign

SHILLONG: Comingone Ymbon, the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs for the state of Meghalaya has launched a Food Security Campaign in the state. This campaign has been initiated by the state to sensitize the citizens of Meghalaya regarding the availability of food grains to even the poorest of people. It also aims to reach out to key stakeholders, community-based institutions, the general public and other partners regarding the facilities and schemes of the government.

The minister said that his department has undertaken efforts this year to provide better services to the public and in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goal 2 of the United Nations, wants to reach the goal of Zero Hunger in the state. He also announced that the department will be using multiple media including social media and community-based media alongside the mainstream media to spread awareness regarding the National Food Security Act of 2013.

The minister also mentioned that the One Nation One Ration Card Scheme also be promoted and this will allow the streamlining of the process of distribution of food materials to those who are in actual need of the same. He also mentioned that the campaign aims to spread awareness regarding the linking of such facilities with the AADHAR Card to ensure the smooth conduct of the services adding that one ration card per family will allow the citizens to receive maximum benefits from the department.

He also informed that the people will also be made aware of the Redressal System and the toll-free helpline number 1967 along with other facilities across multiple verticals including Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) under NFSA 2013, Priority Households under NFSA 2013, One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) and Aadhaar Seeding.

It can be noted that this campaign has been initiated ahead of the General Elections due next year.
